この作品は巻紙に文などを書いた後その紙を切り離すため古来より硯箱に添えられていた紙刀をペーパーナイフとして製作しました。
本来金具を付ける部分に金具の蒔絵を描いた絵金具（えかなぐ）、美しい螺鈿、昇鯉・波頭・破魔矢といった吉祥図を描いたものを製作。
また紙刀で前途を「切り拓く」意味も込めています。
